John Mousinho exit verdict at Portsmouth shared amid recruitment claim

Don Goodman insists there is no chance of John Mousinho being lured away from Portsmouth prior to the new Championship campaign.

Mousinho is considered one of the hottest young managerial talents around after guiding Pompey back into the second tier last month.

The 38-year-old will inevitably attract interest from rival clubs, but Goodman believes he has everything he needs at Fratton Park, including backing from higher up in terms of money for new signings.

“Having met John a few times, he strikes me as a very grounded and loyal individual who appreciates the opportunity he has been given,” Goodman told Pompey News.

“It’s similar to Kieran McKenna – he will not for a second be thinking about leaving Ipswich Town. Portsmouth are safe in terms of keeping John Mousinho at the helm.

“And when you look at the Championship, Portsmouth are a big club. I think he’ll be supported in terms of recruitment.”

John Mousinho must be backed at Portsmouth

Mousinho helped end the club’s long wait to return to the Championship, but that is only half the challenge.

The managerial rookie is now tasked with keeping Pompey in the division, which will not be easy, even if Ipswich have made it look that way.

After releasing a large number of players, the club now need to work on restocking the squad in time for the August start date.

A hugely exciting year awaits Portsmouth, and thankfully Mousinho will be at the helm to guide the club through it.
