Jed Wallace makes Fratton Park admission ahead of Portsmouth return
Jed Wallace spoke of his excitement at getting to return to Fratton Park when West Brom visit Portsmouth next season.
Former Pompey winger Wallace, 30, will get the chance to take to the Fratton Park turf again next campaign after John Mousinho’s side were promoted to the Championship.
The Baggies were beaten in the Championship play-off semi-finals by Pompey’s fierce rivals Southampton but replying to a fan on X (20 May), Wallace said he is itching to play at Fratton Park again having departed Portsmouth for Wolves back in 2015.
“Been looking forward to that for 10 years mate. Will be great to be back at Fratton Park,” Wallace, who later left Wolves for Millwall, wrote.
Jed Wallace a popular figure at Portsmouth
Wallace represented Pompey during a difficult period in their history but he was a popular figure at Fratton Park during the early days of his professional career.
Indeed, he was named the club’s Player of the Year in the 2014-15 campaign after finishing as the club’s top goalscorer with 17 goals and making the League Two Team of the Year.
Since leaving Pompey, Wallace has forged a very good career in the football league and was one step away from making Wembley with the Baggies this season as they were knocked out of the playoffs.
It means he will get a reunion with Portsmouth next season and hopefully he doesn’t enjoy his return to Fratton Park too much!
Portsmouth will be looking to emulate what Ipswich Town have done when they return to the second tier for the first time since 2011/12 under Mousinho after a title-winning campaign in League One.
