Andy Moon explains reason why Pack and Ogilvie have not yet signed Portsmouth contracts
BBC Solent’s Andy Moon has explained that Portsmouth do not need to rush in securing Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie to the new contracts the club have offered the duo.
Moon was expressing his views during a Q&A on BBC Sounds [29 May, 31m10s] and responded to a supporter question on whether the pair were any closer to agreeing new deals with Pompey.
Club captain Pack and full-back Ogilvie were the only first-team players out of contract this summer who were offered new terms at Portsmouth after the club’s promotion, with 10 senior players released at Fratton Park.
Moon said: “John Mousinho and Rich Hughes would have spoken to Pack and Ogilvie and told them [the club] would like to make them a contract offer.
“That was probably then dealt with by their agents – it’s not a case of sitting there and accepting or rejecting it.
“Players go away and think about it – Marlon Pack is still abroad at the moment – and I’m fairly confident those two deals will get done. But don’t expect them to get done anytime soon and don’t panic.”
Pack and Ogilvie for Championship Portsmouth
Despite there being some weeks before pre-season with the League One campaign finishing in April this year, Portsmouth will be very keen to secure the services of Pack and Ogilvie in the Championship.
Mousinho and Hughes have clearly been strict with their contract policy over the summer, with a squad upgrade mission underway throughout the summer window.
Pompey tend not to announce new signings until the transfer window has officially opened and contracts can be outrightly signed rather than merely agreed, and it’s expected that successful re-signings of the champion duo will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Presuming they both stay on the South Coast, it will be intriguing to see how they step up to Championship level in contrasting circumstances: Pack has many years of experience in the division under his belt but is approaching his mid-thirties, whilst Ogilvie is at a prime age of 28 but has not yet played above League One level.
