David Norris lauds Portsmouth as great place to be from the outside following club investment
David Norris has described Portsmouth as what appears a “great place to be”, following significant investment from Tornante into the club.
Norris’ memorable time at Pompey was cut short to just a solitary season into a three-year deal, with the club having to agree contract terminations with all senior pros at Fratton Park in the summer of 2012 to avoid liquidation.
Now, 12 years on, the Blues have clawed a way back into the Championship for the first time since the midfielder’s spell on the South Coast, and appear from the outside to be moving in a progressive direction both on and off the pitch with the multi-million-pound investment into key areas.
“There has always been that worry of the off-field chaos for fans because of what they’ve been through in the past,” Norris exclusively told Pompey News.
“Just to see stability, that investment there and seeing money put back into the club, it seems like a really great place to be.
“It’s a great, great club – so I’m really happy to see it.”
Portsmouth benefitting from supply of funds
Huge credit has to go to Tornante, run by the Eisners, for their investment into major areas of the club.
Portsmouth supporters are reaping the benefits of improvement works at Fratton Park that have now smashed the £15m barrier according to club CEO Andy Cullen, and the title-winning women’s team of 2023-24 have turned professional after just one season part-time.
No doubt the most interesting factor from the fans’ perspective is the transfer budget allocated to John Mousinho and the scouting team in rebuilding for the Championship return, with plenty of work to be done after the opening of the transfer window as of Friday.

Norris and several of his teammates from the 2011-12 campaign – blighted by administration, relegation and anguish – will wish that Pompey’s current progress was the case 12 years ago, enabling them to have given the Championship a good go under Michael Appleton.
A new era is developing at Fratton.
