Portsmouth praised over early summer transfer business as new signing confirmed
David Norris has praised Portsmouth over the “exciting signing” of Jordan Williams from Barnsley.
The 24-year-old right back was this week confirmed as Pompey’s first signing since earning promotion from League One to the Championship.
Williams joins as a free agent after the expiration of his Barnsley contract and arrives at Fratton Park boasting experience in the second tier.
Sharing his verdict on the confirmed transfer news, former midfielder Norris told Pompey News: “I think that’s a good signing.
“There’s been some mixed reviews from Barnsley fans but overall he sounds as though he will be a good addition.
“With the formation Portsmouth are likely to play, he is probably a step up from what they had previously and has that Championship experience as well. He’s an exciting signing.”
Portsmouth up and running with summer transfer activity
After releasing a number of players on the back of earning promotion, and being left hanging over others penning fresh terms, it was always important Pompey made a fast start to the transfer window.
A little over a week after it opened, the arrival of Williams is a good start to what will hopefully be a productive couple of month.
Williams played 52 times for Barnsley last season and skippered the side, so he arrives at Fratton Park with leadership qualities.

The former Huddersfield Town player is an attack-minded full-back who looks more than capable of performing consistently at Championship level.
John Mousinho will now be after more of the same as Portsmouth attempt to strengthen their squad ahead of the big kick off.
In other Portsmouth news, Norris has backed Pompey to be surprise promotion contenders next season.
