Emma Jones signs professional contract with Portsmouth Women
Portsmouth Women have finally secured the services of Emma Jones on a longer professional contract, the club have announced.
Via the club’s official website [9 July], Pompey revealed last year’s double Player of the Season award winner had penned a new two-year deal at Westleigh Park.
Jones – who arrived in 2021 and has since made a massive contribution in the royal blue – becomes the 12th player in Jay Sadler’s squad to agree professional terms following this summer’s full-time transition.
Portsmouth Women secure two more years of Jones
As Portsmouth take steps to ensure the lion’s share of their women’s team’s top talent remain at the club on a full-time basis, Jones is perhaps the most important to date.
The six-cap Wales international has averaged a goal every two games for the Blues in what has been a crucial innings at the club over the past three years – one which Sadler and his staff are over the moon to extend.
A player who complements a young squad with vital experience at Championship level, 29-year-old Jones has also represented Lewes – a club with a positive reputation for women’s talent.
It will have felt like the professional transition was never quite going to be complete without a new contract being agreed with Jones, and this marks an excellent step in the right direction.
The forward’s 41 goal contributions last season also included 13 assists in among some crucial goals that fired Pompey to the summit of the league table, sealing promotion, and every ounce of that experience will be needed in 2024-25.
