Regan Poole shares update on injury recovery at Portsmouth

Regan Poole says he can’t put a date on his return from a knee injury just yet as Portsmouth prepare for their first Championship season in 12 years.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent on Monday (July 15), Poole said he would be gutted if he set a date and it got delayed.

He mentioned that only the physio could set a date, but even they aren’t doing that to avoid giving false hope.

The centre-back added: “There’s so many boxes you need to tick before you move onto the next phase. I’m hoping to be back as soon as possible but if it’s longer it has to be longer.”

When can Portsmouth expect to have Poole back?

John Mousinho has cautioned against rushing Poole back too soon. The Wales international suffered ACL damage in November and is likely to be out at least until late July.

It has meant Poole has not yet been able to properly join in pre-season with his team-mates nor take part in Pompey’s friendlies as they gear up for their return to the second tier.

But, after such a serious injury, you cannot blame Poole nor the medical team for taking their time with his recovery, the last thing he, Mousinho and Pompey supporters want is for him to rush back and suffer a relapse.

Hopefully, Poole can continue his recovery on the timescale set out by the medical staff at Fratton Park and return to make an impact in the Championship after Pompey’s fantastic promotion from the third tier last term.
