Portsmouth trialists named by BBC journalist as pre-season gets underway
BBC journalist Andrew Moon has detailed the identities of the two Portsmouth trialists featuring against Gosport Borough on Tuesday.
Moon shared on X [16 July] that Sean Patton and Jamal Baptiste are on trial with John Mousinho’s side, as they officially kicked off their pre-season friendly schedule with the Tuesday night encounter against their neighbours across the Solent.
Pompey sporting director Rich Hughes confirmed the club are seeking “five or six” further new faces this summer ahead of the club’s long-awaited Championship return.
Portsmouth trial duo – who are they?
Portsmouth are on a mission to bolster the squad and have already begun to do so with a clutch of free transfers and loan signings – the majority with Championship experience.
The club are also hoping to be able to bring at least one player back to Fratton Park who spent last term on loan to win the League One title.
Patton and Baptiste are now being judged by Mousinho and his staff as they look to scoop further additions.
Patton, just 17, is a curious case as he has just signed a season-long loan deal with Finn Harps from parent club Derry City. The Irishman is an agile and vibrant striker.
Baptiste, 20, is a defender who is a free agent following his release by Manchester City, whom he signed for last year. He came through the ranks at West Ham United with two appearances for the club, and spent a brief loan spell at Belgian side Lommel last season.
