Done Deal: Jack Sparkes signs contract to complete Portsmouth exit

Portsmouth left-back Jack Sparkes has completed his move to Peterborough United on a three-year contract.

Sparkes, who was an important player in Pompey’s promotion from League One last season, leaves after featuring in 43 games.

Despite interest from other clubs, Sparkes opted for Peterborough, who acted swiftly after an injury sidelined their player Rio Adebisi.

The Posh announced the news via their official website on Friday (July 26), saying: “Peterborough United have moved quickly in the transfer market to bring in left-back Jack Sparkes from Sky Bet Championship side Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee, with the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.”

Portsmouth part ways with Jack Sparkes and Peterborough secure a decent player

Peterborough have made a smart move by signing Sparkes from Portsmouth. Sparkes was a key player for Pompey last season and helped them get promoted. His experience and solid performances will be a big plus for the Posh.

In addition, Sparkes fits perfectly with manager Darren Ferguson’s style of play. He’s got a great left foot and is good at set-pieces, which will make Peterborough’s attack even stronger. Plus, he already knows some of the players, so he should settle in quickly.

Peterborough acted fast to sign Sparkes, especially after Rio Adebisi’s injury. This was because they knew the player, having met him last year, according to Ferguson. Sparkes himself said that he is excited to start and wants to play regular first-team football, which is exactly what the club needs as well.

In short, Sparkes brings experience, skill, and enthusiasm that will undoubtedly improve the Posh’s squad as they seek promotion to the Championship. His signing shows the club is serious about competing and succeeding this season.
