John Mousinho fumes at ‘ridiculously poor’ Portsmouth play v Wycombe
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho blasted his side’s “ridiculously poor” performance after a dreadful 4-0 defeat to Wycombe in a behind-closed-doors pre-season match.
Despite using 22 players in two 60-minute periods, the Blues were thoroughly outplayed at their Hilsea training ground on Saturday (27 July).
Mousinho admitted there were few positives, noting the game was a wake-up call ahead of the season.
Speaking to The News after the match, Mousinho said: “I thought Zak Swanson was outstanding in the second 60 minutes and there were some decent performances in the first 30 minutes.
“But, after that first 30 minutes, we played some ridiculously poor football considering how good some of these players are and considering the level.”
Portsmouth prepare for their first Championship season in 12 years
Excitement is building on the South Coast as Portsmouth get ready for their first Championship season in 12 years.
But, John Mousinho’s side, fresh from winning the League One title, is looking to do more than just survive in the second tier.
Pompey have made some smart moves in the transfer market, bringing in players like Josh Murphy, Jordan Archer, and Jordan Williams without spending big money. This shows they’re planning well for the season ahead.

Mousinho also wants to bring back Tino Anjorin, who showed great potential last season despite some injuries. Anjorin’s skills and hard work could be key for Pompey as they step up to the Championship.
With good preparation and smart signings, Portsmouth are aiming to not just stay in the league but to make a strong impact in their long-awaited return to the Championship.
