Portsmouth given green signal by Doctor to seal Matt Ritchie transfer
Portsmouth will be looking for anything outside the norm in their pre-transfer checks for Matt Ritchie, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that he could have an impact off the pitch so the decision to sign the 34-year-old winger may not just hinge on his fitness.
This comes after The News reported on 19 June that Pompey are considering a move to bring their former player back to the club.
Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:
“The key Portsmouth will be looking for is anything outside the norm for his age and positional norms.
“If the medical checks out and he is still capable, then a free transfer would make a lot of sense.
“Additionally, he can be a role model for the younger players on the squad with his professionalism.
“Potential downsides are always the chance for injury and turning into a vicious cycle.”
Matt Ritchie could be a valuable signing for Portsmouth
As a former player, he has a strong connection to the club and understands their culture, which would make him an instant hit with the fans.
His experience in the Premier League and Championship, including promotions with Bournemouth and Newcastle, would bring valuable leadership and know-how to the team.

While he may be past his prime at 34, he still has a few good years left, making him a short-term investment with potential long-term benefits in mentoring younger players so signing him on a free transfer is low risk.
