Eric Eisner reacts to Leeds United v Portsmouth drama, ‘cardiac kids are back’

Portsmouth director Eric Eisner has delivered his instant reaction on social media after a ridiculous game ended in a 3-3 draw against Leeds United.

Eisner posted on his X account [10 August] and referred to Pompey as the “cardiac kids” due to their ability to produce a contest of so many twists and turns.

Callum Lang’s double including a late penalty twice put the Blues in front, with Leeds salvaging a point through Brenden Aaronson – who then missed a sitter with almost the last kick to win it, with the Whites having already scored through Pascal Struijk and Willy Gnonto.

Elias Sorensen got John Mousinho’s men off the mark for the campaign with a debut goal which made it 1-1 in the first half, with Pompey having led at the break after Lang’s immense first strike.

Eisner shared straight after the final whistle: “So, what a way to open up on the Championship campaign. Big point to take! Can’t argue with that result.

“The cardiac kids are back. Should be an entertaining season to say the least. Would have taken a point at the start of the day for sure.

“This team seems to have the heart of last year. Highly entertaining first game. Lots more to come…”

Portsmouth grab dramatic draw – it could have gone either way…

Portsmouth will know that when all is said and done, a point is very welcome to get the team out of the blocks back in the Championship.

However, in the final three minutes it could easily have been won – and lost.

Lang’s penalty, won by Christian Saydee, was as against the run of play as the two first-half goals for Pompey, but when Aaronson followed up his last-gasp leveller with an unbelievable miss, it almost seemed a thankful moment to escape with a point.

Despite Leeds firmly dominating proceedings as expected, Portsmouth fans now have a hint as to how they may fare having got arguably the toughest league fixture of the season out the way.

Four debutants started with Matt Ritchie among the subs to enter the field, and although some individual displays were far from perfect, it sets the tone that the Blues will be no pushovers at this level.
