View: Will Norris excels, another flops with 5/10 – Portsmouth player ratings v Luton Town

Portsmouth worked hard in their Fratton Park return to the Championship against Luton Town, grinding out a goalless draw against the 10-man Hatters.

Despite chances at both ends – mainly in the first half with Luton having the more clear-cut – no breakthrough was made as the second half petered out.

Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was sent off for two bookable offences in quick succession before the break, but both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils in the South Coast sunshine.

Here, Pompey News rates the Blues team for their individual performances at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth frustrated with second straight draw

Will Norris – 8

Was the man who kept Luton at bay single-handedly with three excellent saves in the first half. Staking his claim to, in time, become a top Championship goalkeeper.

Jordan Williams – 6

Swept up at the back down the right-hand side, an unglamorous but hard-working display. Could have had a late assist for Moxon, but was ruled not to have kept the ball in by the referee.

Conor Shaughnessy – 6

Tested Kaminski early on, maybe should have had a penalty, and showed an excellent passing range from the back. Was caught on his heels for the Chong chance early on, booked for dissent.

Ryley Towler – 6

Looked more comfortable on his second Championship start after a baptism of fire against Leeds United. A coachable player whose attitude will allow him to further develop.

Connor Ogilvie – 7

Kept Ogbene quiet, was eager in the first half to get forward. Played his part in Kaminski’s red card and was very organised.

Clean sheet earned by great Norris display

Marlon Pack (off for Ben Stevenson 83′) – 5

Always reliable at the hub of the midfield and showed a good passing range, was booked for a rash challenge on Clark. Limped off towards the end, hopefully not an issue.

Andre Dozzell (off for Owen Moxon 71′) – 5

Better than last week, carries a good set-piece delivery. Booked for a foul on Ogbene after being caught, occasional pass was off.

Paddy Lane (off for Matt Ritchie 71′) – 5

A couple of first-half shots, forced Kaminski into second yellow, but his impact dwindled after half-time.

Callum Lang – 6

Got the better of Clark in the first half, worked hard as always and helped out defensively. Not as much came off for him going forward as last week.

Sam Silvera – 7

A constant threat in the first half, Pompey’s best outfield player. Gave Luton plenty to think about, faded slightly in the second half as Luton sat back further with 10 men.

Christian Saydee (off for Elias Sorensen 78′) – 6

Came in as the only change from Leeds, linked up well as a focal point and again used both his physicality and work-rate to his advantage, no real chances however.

Substitutes

Owen Moxon (on for Andre Dozzell 71′) – 6

Slotted in well and showed comfort on the ball, some good passing and had what would have been Pompey’s best chance of the second half, adjudged to have already gone out of play.

Matt Ritchie (on for Paddy Lane 71′) – 5

Provided a decent outlet into the box in a cagier second half, tried a shot just over the bar.

Elias Sorensen (on for Christian Saydee 78′) – 5

Came on, worked hard, no major impact.

Ben Stevenson (on for Marlon Pack 83′) – 5

Replaced the injured Pack and kept it ticking towards the goalless draw.
