Portsmouth landmark derby clash chosen for national TV coverage in club first

Portsmouth and Southampton Women will face off at Fratton Park in a live televised fixture this season on Sunday 13 October (2pm).

As revealed on Pompey Women’s official X page [28 August], the two fierce rivals will play their first-ever second-tier match against one another live on the Barclays Women’s Championship YouTube channel.

This announcement adds to the news earlier this month that the South Coast neighbours will meet for an additional clash in the group stage of this season’s League Cup.

Portsmouth and Southampton meet live on TV at Fratton Park

Whilst it’s a shame Portsmouth and Southampton’s men’s teams were unable to play a first league derby in over 12 years this season, the women’s sides are stepping in.

With at least three meetings between the arch-enemies coming up in 2024-25, Jay Sadler’s newly professional Blues will need all the support they can get.

Although the majority of Pompey Women’s league matches will take place at Westleigh Park in Havant, Fratton Park will host a selection of contests including, of course, the derby.

The Women’s Championship YouTube channel hosts regular live games and has got in early with their selection of this one, with the countdown well and truly on for the long-awaited kick-off to the season.

Portsmouth start with a visit to The Valley to test themselves against Charlton Athletic, on Sunday 8 September.
