View: Portsmouth discover potential gem after teen’s 100% debut from the bench
Portsmouth have a potential star for the future on their hands after a debut for Abdoulaye Kamara against Sunderland on Saturday.
The 19-year-old midfielder came off the bench an hour into Pompey’s 3-1 defeat by Sunderland, entering the fray alongside three teammates after the hosts had conceded a third goal in their Championship defeat.
Kamara, formerly of PSG, was signed from Borussia Dortmund last week and has been lauded by boss John Mousinho.
The Blues’ head coach told The News [31 August] about their youngster: “Abdoulaye was really bright, he has come in and done well over the past week or so.
“It’s going to be a big adjustment for him going from the Dortmund B team to Championship football, but he has done it really well and we’re really excited about the prospect he brings.”

Portsmouth have a potential star on their hands with Kamara judging by the things that appeared to come naturally to him against Sunderland, seen as a shining light on a disappointing day on the South Coast.
Signed as an assured midfield man with fearlessness and bravery on the ball, this elegance in possession was demonstrated as he aced 100% of his 25 passes in the centre of the park [Fotmob].
The young Guinean has made 48 appearances in the 3. Liga in Germany with Dortmund’s second team, for whom last season he maintained a passing accuracy of 85% and succeeded with 78% of his attempted dribbles, an ideal deep-lying transition player [Sofascore].
The Fotmob player data shows Kamara made five defensive ball recoveries in the half-hour he was on the field, and did enough to get Pompey fans off their seats on several occasions – and not necessarily to leave Fratton Park with their team beaten.
With a glittering football pedigree across two of France and Germany’s biggest clubs, the promise the youngster possesses could be a huge asset to Portsmouth.
