Portsmouth Women discover derby date as third Southampton Women fixture pencilled in

Portsmouth Women have found out when they will take on bitter rivals Southampton in the League Cup group stage.

As posted on X from the club’s official women’s team page (3 September), Jay Sadler’s side will be hosting neighbours Saints on Sunday 24 November at 2pm.

The contest is currently pencilled in to be played at Westleigh Park, but could even be upgraded to Fratton Park with specific fixture details in due course.

Portsmouth Women to play three South Coast derbies

With the League Cup draw pitting Portsmouth against Southampton as one of three group opponents – alongside West Ham United and London City Lionesses – the two sides will now meet three times this season.

The two league fixtures between the rivals are scheduled for 13 October (home, live on TV) and 25 March next year (away).

Not only will it be one of many exciting new tests for Sadler’s newly professional squad, but it will also enhance support for the girls around the region and attract new supporters as the season progresses.

Pre-season is now complete for the Blues, who play their first-ever Championship league fixture this Sunday against Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

Progress in the League Cup would furthermore be an excellent achievement to run parallel to the team’s league focus.
