Portsmouth Women offer support to Jazz Younger amid long-term injury news
Portsmouth have rallied in solidarity with their women’s team defender Jazz Younger, after it was confirmed the 23-year-old had ruptured her ACL for a second time.
The official Portsmouth Women page posted on X [4 September] to confirm the agonising news, along with a show of support.
Younger is Pompey’s longest-serving women’s player who is now into her seventh season at the club, making 116 appearances [Portsmouth FC, 29 June] and signing her first professional contract in the summer.
After undergoing an extensive recovery period for an initial ACL rupture last season, Younger will once again have to go through another long rehabilitation phase.
Portsmouth Women star Jazz Younger suffers second ACL tear
As footballing injuries go, to rupture an anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) is devastating enough, but to re-rupture the same ligament a second time is horrific.
Now is the time when the Pompey community and all the players and staff must rally around Younger, who has luckily already signed her professional deal for two years and will be undergoing rehab on a full-time basis.
Younger was one of a huge group of players to sign professional contracts over the summer as Jay Sadler, Kim Stenning and the backroom staff gear up for their inaugural Championship fixture at Charlton Athletic.
Having been at Westleigh Park since her teens, Younger will no doubt be present at matches to support from the sidelines, with every intention of returning to the pitch as quickly as possible.
Her initial surgery was in April, and a new rehabilitation programme will be put in place by Rosie Castle and James Webb of the physiotherapy and medical team.
