John Mousinho shares Conor Shaughnessy injury update ahead of Portsmouth v West Brom
Portsmouth are set to enjoy a massive fitness boost with three players available to return against West Brom on Sunday (15 September).
John Mousinho revealed to BBC Radio Solent’s Andy Moon [12 September] that Conor Shaughnessy is set to return after missing the last two league games, and Josh Murphy could make his official debut at Fratton Park.
Tom McIntyre, who was both injured and sent off on his debut for Pompey back in early February, has also completed his recovery and could feature. New defensive arrival Ibane Bowat is awaiting a scan after being seen on crutches this week.
Mousinho said: “Conor Shaughnessy should be okay; Tom McIntyre is back available, as is Josh Murphy.
“We’re waiting on scan results for Ibane so we’re hopeful on that one. Regan Poole and Jacob Farrell should be back available for the Burnley game [next week].
“Sammy Silvera was back [Thursday from internationals], and has done his second day of recovery.”
Portsmouth set for powerful squad boost
With a combination of the fixture list, an abundance of new faces and a ludicrous injury list for this stage of the season, Portsmouth can assess August and give themselves a pat on the back.
The win has not yet come, but you sense it’s not far off given the anticipated returns of several key players, some of whom their importance is merely a matter of an educated guess as they have not yet appeared in a Pompey shirt.
Mousinho also told Moon he is looking forward to a selection headache, which will certainly be the case given the Blues’ 31 first-team players on the books when the injuries do dry up.

The expected comebacks complement each other, too. If for instance Shaughnessy is not quite 100%, McIntyre is now available and vice-versa; Murphy can slot in for Silvera on the left with the Australian international having just travelled back from Down Under, via 90 minutes in Indonesia on Tuesday (10 September).
Pompey’s good news comes at the right time, with high-flying West Brom landing at Fratton this weekend, and the extra 24 hours from most of the Championship’s fixtures hopefully serves Mousinho well in terms of his squad options.
