Sky Sports pundit expects ‘interesting’ game when Portsmouth host West Brom

Portsmouth will be keen to continue measuring themselves against the EFL’s best opponents as West Brom come to Fratton Park, says Dan Bardell.

The Sky Sports broadcaster explained that despite Pompey having yet to win a game since returning to the Championship, they will be heading into these high-profile contests without fear.

Pompey have already taken score draws from both Leeds United and Middlesbrough this season, also claiming a point against relegated Luton Town at Fratton Park before defeat by leaders Sunderland.

Ahead of second-placed Albion’s visit south, Sky Sports pundit Bardell exclusively told Pompey News: “For Portsmouth, West Brom are one of the toughest teams you can play at the moment – they’ve got a feel-good around them and spent a bit of money towards the end of the transfer window.

“Pompey will be going into games and not really fearing anyone – they still have that bit of momentum themselves. It’ll be a good barometer for them of what kind of level they’re at and how far they’ve come. It should be an interesting game.”

Portsmouth ready to take on unbeaten West Brom

Despite West Brom’s rapid start to the season, winning three and drawing one without defeat, Portsmouth should remain optimistic.

It’s easy to look at the newly promoted Blues and write them off based on not managing a victory in four games, but when you look at their opponents and how close they have come on two occasions to a memorable away win, between the lines beholds a lot to read.

Furthermore, John Mousinho has been handed a triple fitness boost [Andy Moon, 12 September], with Josh Murphy, Conor Shaughnessy and Tom McIntyre all in contention to feature against Carlos Corberan’s Baggies – and several others only a week or so away.

The club have that extra 24 hours until Sunday (15 September) to try and get players as sharp as possible, and will be buoyant heading into a lively encounter with some old friends on the island city.

West Brom certainly shouldn’t take this one lightly, and it could go either way despite what the table suggests.
