Portsmouth Women to aim for record-breaking matchday revenue v Southampton
Portsmouth will aim for a record women’s matchday revenue at the club when they host Southampton Women at Fratton Park next month.
One of three derbies to be played between the South Coast rivals this season, Pompey take on Saints at PO4 on Sunday 13 October, with the club releasing ticket details on their official site on Thursday [19 September].
With adult standard pricing at £9 with a £2 discount for season ticket holders, the club could make north of £20,000 in pure pre-booked ticket revenue, booking and administration fees and matchday ticket sales.
This comes before the trade of food, hospitality and matchday memorabilia, which will contribute to covering significant maintenance and staff costs since the Eisners’ summer investment into the women’s department at the club.
Portsmouth will reap rewards of derby at Fratton Park
Despite another season set to go by without a South Coast derby for the Portsmouth men’s first team, the women are stepping up to the plate with a trio of derbies across league and cup.
October presents an eagerly anticipated affair which the clubs and the league have rightly moved from Westleigh Park to Fratton Park – and will also be available on TV, which Pompey will not be advertising too much.
It has been a whirlwind transition process for Jay Sadler’s side who will be taking some time to acclimatise to their new professional environment, and the sheer quality of the league in comparison to the National League they romped last year.
The Blues have endured successive 3-0 losses to Charlton Athletic and Durham to begin the campaign, but are luckily not alone, with Sheffield United and Sunderland having also started with a duo of defeats.
Pompey will be hoping for points on the board and a fair level of momentum before taking on their nearest rivals, in a derby day clash which must be marketed for maximum financial advantage.
