Portsmouth given update on injured player before Sheffield United clash – report
Portsmouth could potentially welcome back Mark O’Mahony for next weekend’s game against Sheffield United, according to The News.
Neil Allen’s report [24 September] notes that John Mousinho will be hoping for a full return for O’Mahony, who has not featured since his debut against Sunderland last month.
The 19-year-old striker briefly returned to parent club Brighton & Hove Albion for a scan on some bruising to his foot, with positive results illustrating the injury sustained on international duty was not as bad as first feared.
O’Mahony has had an eventful early season, scoring for Brighton before arriving at Pompey on loan the following day in August, and had been away with the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side.
Portsmouth receive Mark O’Mahony boost
Portsmouth have an enlarged squad following a busy summer of transfer business, but injuries have plagued the Blues alongside a brutal early run of fixtures.
A striker shortage has left Mousinho scratching his head, as Colby Bishop’s heart surgery sees him undergo a careful rehab plan and Kusini Yengi has struggled for full fitness, with Christian Saydee getting the nod up top over Elias Sorensen.
O’Mahony will play plenty of football this season should he be fit, which benefits all parties – the Irishman explained earlier this month about how the Pompey loan could be perfect for himself.

Sheffield United will bring an array of talent to Fratton Park this weekend but it is nothing Portsmouth are not used to, given they have already faced the other two relegated sides from the Premier League – plus Sunderland, West Brom, Leeds and Middlesbrough.
A first goal in blue for O’Mahony could, you sense, get the ball rolling for a determined and talented player.
