John Mousinho ‘wants more’ from Andre Dozzell but defends Portsmouth star’s contribution so far
John Mousinho says Andre Dozzell still has improvement in his locker but is pleased with his Portsmouth contribution so far.
Dozzell had started every Championship game alongside skipper Marlon Pack in the Blues’ midfield but was replaced by Freddie Potts last week at Burnley.
The former QPR and Ipswich man will be keen to return to the side against Sheffield United, with whom he had successfully trialled in the summer and rejected a contract.
Mousinho told The News [27 September]: “I still want more out of Andre, I want more involvement in the game, I would like to see him get forward a bit more and really put his technicality on the entirety of the pitch.
“One of the things I’ve tried to frame with the boys is if you find yourself out of the side or out of the squad, there might be things you need to do or things you need to improve, but it’s not a case of being dropped or losing your place.
“There’s plenty of promise there and plenty to come from Andre. I’m looking forward to a lot more.”
Andre Dozzell has point to prove at Portsmouth
Mousinho has spoken about how it has been far more straightforward analysing Dozzell ahead of bringing him to Fratton Park, as opposed to players Portsmouth have recruited from overseas as far as Australia.
The midfielder has an important wealth of Championship experience and is still only 25 – and is risk-free from the club’s perspective having signed just a one-year deal with a point to prove.
Dozzell chose Pompey over the Blades, who visit PO4 this Saturday remaining unbeaten in the league so far, as the Blues chase a first win.

But this side have shown they can go toe-to-toe with the more equipped juggernauts of the Championship – it is just a case of getting results over the line.
For Dozzell, retaining his place in midfield will be the priority as the competition rises.
