Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder makes Portsmouth Fratton Park admission after stalemate

Chris Wilder admits he expects Portsmouth to start racking up wins at Fratton Park after his Sheffield United side struggled to a goalless draw there on Saturday (28 September).

The Blades boss was unable to steer his unbeaten side to victory on the South Coast in front of a sell-out crowd, as neither side could carve out a breakthrough.

Pompey put in a brave performance to round off September and, although winless, have dealt with a run of very tough fixtures.

Wilder was quoted by Ireland Live [28 September] as saying: “Portsmouth were good and you have to give them credit.

“If they play like that for all their home games and away games, they will get results and they will win games.

“They will make it as difficult for other teams as they made it for us. Teams will get beaten here if Pompey play like that all season.”

Portsmouth draw praise as October schedule set to commence

After seven games against what could very feasibly be the Championship’s top seven sides come the end of the season, Portsmouth have completed their daunting August and September schedule.

Emerging without a win but with four credible draws, John Mousinho has plenty of positives to work with which contrast the Blues’ position in the table.

Pompey deserve huge credit for righting their wrongs from previous home games, conceding three in each of the last two, to protect a clean sheet against a dangerous Sheffield United side fresh from the Premier League with international players.

Stoke City are next up, and with players gradually returning from injury, Mousinho has a strengthening pool of players to work with.

On balance, Pompey have shown enough for many to predict they will be fine this season – and the hope is that the first win will set a welcome run of momentum.
