John Mousinho reveals potential good luck charm for Portsmouth v Cardiff City
John Mousinho has discussed what could be a bizarre lucky charm for Portsmouth before their contest with Cardiff City.
A recent video did the rounds of several of the Pompey squad getting stuck in a lift before their first Championship win of the season against QPR [19 October], with a quick turnaround to the visit to South Wales [22 October].
Mousinho, speaking to BBC Radio Solent [22 October], joked the team could superstitiously benefit from having that happen again.
“[The lift incident] was before the game at the hotel on the Friday night. We thought we might have to field eight players, but thankfully we didn’t have to do that.
“We’ll do our best to try and get the lads stuck in a lift again today. Maybe it was slightly dramatic – they were in there for about five minutes – but it’s not the nicest thing.
“I won’t make too many judgements, but I’m just glad they got out.”
Portsmouth look to make their own luck at Cardiff City
After finally triumphing against QPR at the weekend, Portsmouth have a perfect opportunity to maximise their points tally with two games in the next 72 hours starting on Tuesday.
The Blues currently remain 23rd in the table after 10 games, with next opponents Cardiff swapping places with new bottom club QPR after their success, a 5-0 rout over Plymouth Argyle in the Welsh capital.
For a match between two clubs in the relegation zone, there will be plenty of confidence among the sides at the Cardiff City Stadium, which is set to host a loud and proud away end.
Credit for that in part goes to National Rail – the direct GWR service to Cardiff Central is the only long-haul route from Portsmouth Harbour they haven’t cut off down the years.
Six points from three days’ play on the road would be a tremendous return, and could certainly settle a lot of panic that had begun to set in after a run of unconvincing results.
