Mousinho gives assurance over what will definitely happen for Portsmouth v Sheffield Wednesday
John Mousinho says he “knows” Portsmouth will put in a vastly improved performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night [25 October].
Pompey face a quick turnaround for their third Championship game in six days, with mixed fortunes as a win over QPR [19 October] was followed by a dismal 2-0 defeat by Cardiff City [22 October], leaving the side bottom of the league.
Danny Rohl’s Owls visit Fratton Park under the lights, and Mousinho is certain a “positive performance” will come from his side.
“I know we will [perform better]. We can go and put in a really positive performance, but Sheffield Wednesday will be right at it,” the head coach told the official club website [24 October].
“The concerning thing about the group as a whole at the moment is that we need to figure out how to respond to good and bad results.
“We’ve got the opportunity to get straight back into action and give a response on Friday night.”
Portsmouth under big pressure if Sheffield Wednesday snatch win
Portsmouth will claim not to be looking at the Championship table, but will be readily aware of their unwanted position in the league.
The Blues’ fixtures on paper have now eased after a brutal introduction back to the second tier, but the side have still maintained a costly habit of suffering poor results.
The performance at Cardiff was nothing short of appalling, topped only by the thrashing by Stoke City on 2 October, and Pompey were fortunate to cross back over the border to England having conceded just the two though did pick up a triple injury concern.
Sheffield Wednesday, 18th in the table with just four more points on the board than their hosts, have endured a mixed bag of results and struggled for consistency this season.
The Yorkshiremen have drawn a blank in three of their last four games, as the pressure increases to add more goals to their game.
