John Mousinho sack verdict emerges in brand new Portsmouth prediction
John Mousinho likely has three games to decide his fate as Portsmouth head coach, according to former midfielder Gareth Evans.
Evans played over 200 games for Pompey between 2015 and 2020 and made the glaring admission live on Sky Sports [25 October] after the team had given up a lead to lose 2-1 at Fratton Park against Sheffield Wednesday.
The result roots the Blues to the bottom of the Championship after 12 games, without a home win to date.
“[Mousinho] mentioned how he and his staff were running out of credit on the back of the success they had last year, winning League One,” Evans explained, as quoted in The News [26 October].
“You look at the [next fixtures] – Hull away, Plymouth away, Preston at home. They’re three teams who are sort of in and around the position Pompey are.
“If they’re going to start clawing ground back on these teams then they have to start winning games, and the next three are probably going to decide John Mousinho’s future, to tell the truth.”
John Mousinho to be sacked at Portsmouth?
Hopes among Portsmouth fans were raised heading into October following the mountainous task of the opening seven fixtures of the season.
However, the 6-1 hammering by Stoke City set the tone for a frustrating month, and the long-awaited win at QPR on 19 October proved an anomaly.
Pompey have consequently taken just eight points from their first 12 and relegation talk has begun to escalate.

Should Evans’ verdict be accurate, Mousinho has games against Hull, Plymouth and Preston before the international break to steer Pompey’s season back on track.
In case the Blues had forgotten the vigorous ruthlessness of the second tier during their 13-season absence, they are being quickly reminded.
