David Norris predicts Portsmouth exits in January despite what’s happened this season

Portsmouth should look to use the loan market to their advantage in January and gain experience for peripheral players, according to David Norris.

The former Blues midfielder, speaking exclusively to Pompey News, has also debated the idea that John Mousinho needs to flood the squad with more experience, claiming seeing games out has been the primary issue.

Several players were forced to be cut from the club’s 25-man Championship squad, meaning they are not registered to play until the squad list can be revised when the transfer window has opened.

As such, Norris thinks there should be more temporary exits in January despite a spate of injuries affecting John Mousinho’s squad this season.

“If you’ve got players who aren’t going to feature or contribute then you might as well try and get them on loan, get them some game time. I know they made a couple of players available in the last window,” Norris told Pompey News.

“If they go out and do well, there’s an opportunity to bring them back into the fold.

“With regards to bringing players in, I don’t even think it’s a case of looking for more experience, but it’s just coaching that game management side of things into the players they’ve got.”

Portsmouth expected to reshape squad in January

Portsmouth have a swollen squad, but Mousinho has seldom felt the effects of that with constant injuries blighting his team, currently the basement boys of the Championship.

Colby Bishop will be closely reintegrated back into the side as soon as he is medically cleared to return after summer heart surgery, and he joins Tom Lowery and Ben Stevenson in missing out on the current registered squad.

The club attempted to offload several players on loan on deadline day, but only saw Anthony Scully head to Colchester United, while Gavin Whyte left by mutual consent.

In other Portsmouth news, former Blue Gareth Evans makes a harsh prediction on Mousinho.
