David Norris backs latest Portsmouth investment as club have one eye on Premier League
David Norris is glad Portsmouth are taking their latest steps into improving Fratton Park, with a new project for the playing surface in place.
CEO Andy Cullen revealed on 15 October that Pompey are planning for a new state-of-the-art pitch, which is sand-based and requires less maintenance than Fratton’s current soil-based surface.
In a £1.7million scheme, the Blues will also benefit from undersoil heating, which is a Premier League requirement.
“I think it’s good preparation and if the club were higher in the league, questions would be asked if they weren’t doing this,” former midfielder Norris exclusively told Pompey News.
“They’re doing the right things, and they’re seeing the long-term bigger picture to be a bigger and better club.
“I don’t know if the pitch has changed too much since I was there, but it’s good to make progress and it’s positive moving forward.”
Portsmouth investing heavily into infrastructure
Portsmouth and their owners, the Tornante Company, have overseen several infrastructure projects at both Fratton Park and the Copnor Road training ground in a bid to move with the times.
Over £15million has been injected into the refurbishments, which have included designing new ways to recoup that capital through increased attendances and hospitality custom.

The club will not reach the Premier League overnight, but are taking steps to solidify the their long-term ambitions, with the footballing side the next focus.
In other Portsmouth news, the Blues could take advantage of the January loan market.
