Portsmouth Women suffer major double injury blow as news confirmed
Hannah Haughton and Emily Pitman have been hit by long-term injuries in a new blow for Portsmouth Women, it has been confirmed.
It was confirmed on 28 October that Haughton and Pitman will miss the remainder of the season.
Club captain Haughton requires surgery on a dislocated shoulder, while Pitman, formerly of Arsenal, has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] tear.
Portsmouth Women in double injury heartache
The news of the key duo’s injuries comes as a devastating blow not only to the players themselves – who have a lengthy rehabilitation ahead of them – but also to Jay Sadler and the club.
Sadler and his players have endured a baptism of fire thus far since soaring into the Championship last season, having not yet registered a point in their first appearance in the second tier.
Other injury concerns have plagued the squad as they attempt to get the ball rolling, but these setbacks have been ruthless.
On the field, Pompey at least put an end to some of the thrashings they have received when they very nearly claimed something from Bristol City, edged out 1-0 before the international break.
Next up comes the visit of Sheffield United [10 November], who themselves only recently picked up their first points of the league campaign in what will be an important clash with just one club facing relegation come the end of April.
In other Portsmouth news, a released Pompey player has started a coaching workshop in the area.
