Doctor issues Portsmouth defender Conor Shaughnessy injury verdict
Portsmouth defender Conor Shaughnessy is unlikely to play the full 90 minutes before the international break post his calf injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that recurrences are never a good sign and he could even be back in full first-team training in a week.
Calf injuries can linger on for some time and are sensitive as well so the club may decide to be more cautious with the 28-year-old.
Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Difficult to say how severe it is without further comment from the team but a recurrence is never a good sign, particularly for calf injuries which can linger and are notoriously sensitive.
“His return to full training will depend on how bad the reinjury is and how rehab goes.
“If it’s a mild issue, might see him back in full training in a week or so.
“I don’t see him playing the full 90 minutes until after the international break.“
Conor Shaughnessy has been a bit-part player for Portsmouth this season
The Irish defender has made just two league apperances for Pompey this term, with the last one coming in August.
John Mousinho will certainly want to see more from the 28-year-old and will be moving that he does not face any further setbacks.

Last campaign, Shaughnessy was among the first names on the team sheet for Mousinho, playing in 45 out of their 46 league matches.
