John Mousinho reacts to boos from Hull City fans in Portsmouth draw

John Mousinho insists that Hull City fans jeering their players was a reflection of how his Portsmouth side performed in the 1-1 draw.

Hull fans booed their team at the final whistle after Pompey rescued a point at the MKM Stadium on Saturday 2 November.

Josh Murphy levelled just seconds after the break and the Blues pushed for a winner after Joao Pedro had given his side an early lead.

Speaking to The News after the game, Mousinho said: “The booing reflects on our performance.

“I know there is a big expectation when a side bottom of the league comes to a side like Hull, especially when you go a goal up early.

“[It] was a big message at half-time, don’t panic, we’re in the game, we’ll get a goal. Although the lads got the goal a lot quicker than anybody imagined.

“I thought it was a brilliant performance, our best 45 minutes by a long way so far this season.”

Portsmouth have away point to build on

Portsmouth fans would have been forgiven for fearing the worst as the bottom-placed side, heading north to an unpredictable Hull City.

This was proven during the first half, with the hosts having dominated the encounter with Pompey barely laying a glove as they went in behind.

However, the determination at the break sprung Mousinho’s side into life, as Callum Lang set up Murphy for a scrappy goal, which they will take all day long.

On another day, Pompey would have snatched the win – and believe it or not, there will come more fortunate days on which they will take all three points in these circumstances.

The fight continues, and it’s the externally dubbed ‘Dockyard derby’ against Plymouth Argyle next up – the two clubs are 170 miles apart – on Tuesday [5 November].
