Tim Walter reacts to what he heard from Portsmouth fans in Hull City draw
Hull City head coach Tim Walter has praised the Portsmouth fans at the MKM Stadium on Saturday and says he wants more from his own supporters.
The German was evidently frustrated following the 1-1 draw between his Tigers side and Pompey, who equalised through Josh Murphy at the start of the second half.
Reporter Mike White from BBC Radio Humberside, interviewing Walter post-match [2 November] alleged on X that the Hull boss cut the interview short and walked off after a disagreement over supporter questioning.
“I heard the reaction from Portsmouth [fans]. They kept going all the time, also when they were behind,” Walter said.
“So maybe we have to work more together and [our fans] can help us as well. Sometimes you are in bad situations and you need the push from the fans.
“I try to push them, but maybe they can help us – not just when we are going well in a game.”
Portsmouth clearly got under the skin of Hull City
It’s fair to say Portsmouth affected Hull yesterday, which is a positive sign moving forward in the Championship.
As poor as the first-half performance was, the response after the break – sprung straight into life by Murphy’s first competitive Pompey goal – is worthy of a lot of praise.
It doesn’t take long to rekindle hope, and the point combined with Plymouth Argyle’s defeat by Leeds United means John Mousinho takes his side down to Devon on Tuesday [5 November] knowing a win will move them above Argyle.

Wayne Rooney’s side are an unpredictable proposition and the Blues will have to be at it. Showdowns with Plymouth have represented both clubs’ years in the doldrums of League One and Two, Argyle often getting the upper hand.
Pompey are winless in their last seven meetings with Plymouth, but the trip to Home Park could provide a fresh litmus test as to where the side are in terms of progress.
