Ryley Towler to be frustrated by decision John Mousinho made at Portsmouth – David Norris
Ryley Towler will be finding it frustrating to sit on the sidelines and could be next in line to earn a Portsmouth opportunity, David Norris said..
With 27 goals conceded in 14 games, Pompey have the worst defence in the Championship so far, and although largely untroubled against Plymouth Argyle [5 November], were sucker-punched through a defensive error late on.
Towler, who started just three times in League One last season, began the season in John Mousinho’s defence due to an extensive list of injuries but has not played since August with players in his position having returned.
“Maybe he does deserve another chance. To start with, he was filling a void as a stopgap, but his performances grew and he did himself little harm,” ex-Blues midfielder Norris exclusively told Pompey News.
“By the time other players came back, he seemed to be increasing his ceiling. That experience of the Championship will have done him good when he was pretty much the only natural centre-back fit.
“Sometimes when you’re conceding goals, you’re conceding different types and there isn’t one obvious situation that needs changing. But if you’re sat on the sidelines feeling like you’ve done okay and the team are still conceding, it’s frustrating.”
Portsmouth to shake up their defence against Preston?
Portsmouth were left gutted after a dominant display to lose at Plymouth on Tuesday and now prepare to take on Preston North End at Fratton Park [9 November].
Tom McIntyre and Regan Poole, the partnership Mousinho has settled on considering the absence of Conor Shaughnessy, were both at fault for Argyle’s winner in midweek with Towler next in line.

Pompey’s two clean sheets this season however have both come on home turf, against relegated duo Luton Town and Sheffield United.
