David Norris shares ‘Surprised’ John Mousinho sack verdict at Portsmouth
David Norris says John Mousinho is doing what he can with the squad he has at Portsmouth, claiming areas of the team lack quality.
Mousinho has attracted criticism from some quarters for Pompey’s lowly position in the Championship table, though many now hope the 3-1 win over Preston [9 November] and return of Colby Bishop can be a turning point.
The Preston win was the first at Fratton Park since the victory which clinched League One promotion back in April, with the away success at QPR the only other three-point haul from 15 games thus far.
“We always said that first block of games was going to be unrealistic to pick up too many results,” former Blues midfielder Norris exclusively told Pompey News.
“Then they went to another block expecting more points and it hasn’t always worked out. The next block after the international break is the critical one.
“With regard to Mousinho, I’d be very surprised if his job was under any threat at all with what he’s done and his new contract. To be honest, I just think they’re lacking certain quality and it’s not as much on him.”
Portsmouth must use Preston win as springboard
Portsmouth will be hoping the emotional win over Preston can act as a catalyst for an improved run of form between now and Christmas.
Mousinho will be hoping for some quick injury recoveries to assist this task, with three games in seven days to round off November following the international break with several players currently away with their nations.

Pompey take on Blackburn Rovers [23 November] at Ewood Park; Millwall come to Fratton on 27 November, and then it is another long trip to South Wales to take on Swansea City [30 November].
