David Norris flags Portsmouth issue that will be a worry for John Mousinho
David Norris says Portsmouth should attempt to maintain consistency with player positions this season.
The ex-Blues midfielder, speaking exclusively to Pompey News, acknowledges many of the squad are versatile enough to cover different areas, but says John Mousinho should not chop and change if it may not be necessary.
Callum Lang and Christian Saydee have been among those to feature on the wings, up top and in an attacking midfield role; Marlon Pack replaced Tom McIntyre at centre-half last weekend [9 November] despite natural defender Ryley Towler being available.
Norries thinks the issue of having to chop and change will be a worry for boss Mousinho.
“It’s a difficult one because of the injuries and because certain players aren’t exactly new to other positions,” Norris said.
“The worry would be because there has been so much chopping and changing, Mousinho might be unsure what position a player is absolutely best in. That’s more the issue with wingers playing centrally and then back out wide, or vice-versa.
“I still think Pompey will have the issue of inconsistency which hasn’t been helped so far by the injuries, but I think Mousinho is still figuring out his best team.”
Portsmouth side often unexpected for each game
Portsmouth are very rarely unchanged heading into Championship games, which acts as a double-edged sword for both the opponents’ expectations and the team’s own consistency.
Injuries have affected Pompey heavily this season, with some new signings having not yet debuted or barely featured.

Rotation may have to occur once again after the international break, with three league fixtures in seven days to round off November – two of them long trips on the road.
