Jay Sadler reflects on ‘hard result to take’ after Portsmouth Women defeat v Blackburn Rovers

Jay Sadler has described Portsmouth Women’s defeat against Blackburn Rovers as a “hard result to take.”

Sadler’s side were beaten 2-0 at Ewood Park on Sunday (17 November). Therefore, their wait for a first FA Women’s Championship win of the season goes on.

Speaking after the match (via Portsmouth FC on YouTube, 18 November), the Portsmouth boss reflected on what was a frustrating afternoon.

“Yeah, extremely disappointed with the result,” Sadler said.

“There were moments to like about the performance, but I think we just lacked cutting edge. Big moments in the game didn’t go our way.

“We find ourselves coming away from Blackburn with a really hard result to take.”

Sadler laid down the challenge to his players ahead of the clash at Ewood Park. However, the players on the day could not rise to that challenge.

This result would have been particularly frustrating considering it came just one week after Pompey picked up their first league point of the season by drawing 1-1 with Sheffield United Women at West Leigh Park (10 November).

In addition, a win against Blackburn would have lifted Pompey above their opponents, which might have proved crucial in the relegation fight.

Therefore, the result was tough to take for several reasons, and Sadler must now lift his players as they look to go again and build some momentum.

Pompey must now turn their attentions to the Women’s League Cup, with a derby against Southampton up first before London City come to town with winning momentum desperately needed.

In other Portsmouth news, one player could hand John Mousinho an injury boost against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (23 November).
