Ian Darke blasts ‘naive’ Kusini Yengi after what Portsmouth man said
Kusini Yengi needs to keep his head down rather than make judgements on Championship defenders until he resumes scoring regularly for Portsmouth, according to Ian Darke.
The striker returns to Pompey in buoyant fashion having netted twice for Australia against Bahrain on Tuesday [19 November].
Since returning from a groin injury, however, Yengi has failed to score in the Championship and his recent comments putting down opposition defences [The News, 13 November] have come across tone-deaf to his own supporters and former players alike.
“I think he just needs to keep his head down and not be shouting his opinions from the rooftops,” Blues fan and TV commentator Darke exclusively told Pompey News.
“He’s not started many games, so for him to be holding widespread opinions about the value of Championship defenders seems a little naive to me.
“Yengi has a lot to learn about how to impact matches at this kind of level. You’d have to say at the moment, he isn’t really showing he can impact those games.”
Kusini Yengi needs to get off the mark for Portsmouth
Yengi is one of many in the Portsmouth squad who are experiencing the second tier in England for the first time.
The return of Colby Bishop may scupper the 25-year-old’s long-term chances of staying in John Mousinho’s starting XI.

The Socceroos frontman last scored a domestic goal in the final home game of Pompey’s League One-winning season against Wigan Athletic on 20 April.
