Doctor: Portsmouth player unlikely to start games regularly until January

Portsmouth defender Conor Shaughnessy is not expected to start games regularly until the second half of January, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that he could be back in training before the end of 2024, but is not expected to be first-team ready.

The defender was expected to be back sooner, but faced a setback in his rehab and will now not be available for a few more weeks.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “Shaughnessy is expected to miss the rest of the year with a pretty serious injury.

“The typical timeline for this is six weeks and the best case scenario is that he could return to full training.

“However, I do not see him starting games regularly before the second half of January.”

Portsmouth will undoubtedly miss Conor Shaughnessy’s services

John Mousinho will be gutted to not have the 28-year-old to call upon during the busy festive period.

Given his recent setback, the club will be even more cautious with his rehab and ensure it does not happen again.

Hopefully, he’s close to full fitness once the new year begins and he can play his way back into the team.
