John Mousinho delivers on promise as loan decision made on Portsmouth gem
John Mousinho delivered on his promise to young Portsmouth goalkeeper Toby Steward, who has joined Wealdstone on loan.
The National League side are overseen by former Pompey hero of the Premier League, Matt Taylor, and named Steward on the bench for their 1-1 draw with Eastleigh on Saturday [23 November].
The 19-year-old was initially recalled from Tonbridge Angels by Mousinho to cover Jordan Archer against Sheffield Wednesday on 25 October, with Nicolas Schmid and Will Norris both absent through injury.
Portsmouth hope Matt Taylor can bring best out of Toby Steward
Steward has joined the North-West London outfit for an initial month, and Portsmouth will be hoping their former winger Taylor will offer some minutes to the goalkeeper.
The young stopper was first-choice at Tonbridge, having spent last season on loan at Gosport Borough where he had impressed at Privett Park.
But this is the highest level of non-league and competition is rife, as Steward aims to oust Jacob Adams for the number one jersey after Stones stopper Nathan Harness returned to parent club MK Dons.
Schmid, Norris and Archer are all now back fit which offers Mousinho his primary options, and ensures the head coach kept his promise to Steward that he would find him a loan which suits him.
Taylor has been Wealdstone boss since May of this year, having represented Pompey from 2002 to 2008 and made over 200 appearances at Fratton Park.
In other Portsmouth news, Conor Shaughnessy just cannot get a break in his prolonged injury absence.
