Josh Murphy can be ‘huge catalyst’ for Portsmouth survival – David Norris
Josh Murphy can be a “huge catalyst” for Portsmouth surviving in the Championship amid his impressive form, says David Norris.
The winger has overcome initial injury struggles early on in his Pompey career to begin to put in some encouraging performances.
Former Blues midfielder Norris, speaking exclusively to Pompey News, says Murphy can be “vital” for former teammate and now head coach John Mousinho’s squad to kick on in the second tier.
“Josh Murphy is definitely a player you now hope will make a difference. You can tell now he’s fit what he brings to the side,” Norris explained.
“He can be a huge catalyst for the team surviving this season. His quick feet, balls into the box and overall experience are vital.
“I think now we’re beginning to see the best of him and it’s about sustaining that form long-term.”
Josh Murphy provides key league experience to Portsmouth
Murphy can boast more Championship experience throughout his career than the rest of his Portsmouth teammates.
Brought in on a free transfer from Oxford United after helping his and Mousinho’s former side to join the Blues in the second tier, the 29-year-old has played 185 Championship games and counting for six different clubs.

Murphy has also played 38 times in the Premier League, a record only topped in the current Pompey squad by Matt Ritchie (172).
