View: Mousinho will surely be sweating over 89% Portsmouth ace after latest injury update
John Mousinho will be sweating over the fitness of Portsmouth forward Kusini Yengi.
It has been a frustrating couple of weeks for Pompey. After their big 3-1 Championship win over Preston North End at Fratton Park [9 November], which was marked by the “fairytale” return of Colby Bishop, Mousinho and his players would have been desperate to kick on and build some momentum.
However, after being forced to wait two weeks for a chance to play again due to the November international break, Pompey have seen not one but two Championship matches postponed in the last week.
They were scheduled to play Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday [23 November]. However, that match was called off due to the impact of Storm Bert.
Next up was a clash with Millwall at Fratton Park on Wednesday [27 November], which once again was postponed at the last minute due to floodlight issues.
It means that by the time Mousinho’s side take to the pitch in Swansea on Saturday [30 November] it would have been three weeks since they last played.
And the frustrations continue, with a concerning injury update on Yengi emerging.
The Australia international was nowhere to be seen on Wednesday ahead of the cancelled clash with Millwall after picking up a knee injury in action for Australia.
And according to Mousinho [via The News, 28 November], the club won’t know how long the 25-year-old will be sidelined until after a scan on Friday [29 November].
John Mousinho waiting on Kusini Yengi update at Portsmouth
Yengi is yet to score for Portsmouth this season.
However, he recently got back among the goals for Australia, grabbing a brace in a 2-2 World Cup qualifying draw with Bahrain at the Bahrain National Stadium on Tuesday (19 November).
He could have had a few more too, with the striker hitting the woodwork as he missed two big chances among his four shots overall (Sofascore).
Yengi also completed 89 per cent of his passes. Therefore, Mousinho would have been desperate to get him on the pitch as soon as possible to allow the Australian to continue building some momentum.
There is still plenty for the 25-year-old to work on, as he was unsuccessful with both of his attempted dribbles while also giving possession away eight times against Bahrain.
In addition, while he did make one tackle, he only managed to win 50 per cent of his aerial duels (one out of two) and 40 per cent of his ground duels (two out of five).
However, the most important thing was that Yengi scored, and those goals would have done the striker’s confidence the world of good, which could be good for Mousinho’s side.

Therefore, the Portsmouth boss will hope that the forward isn’t sidelined for too long.
