Don Goodman: Portsmouth will be patient with Mousinho
Don Goodman has claimed Portsmouth will be “patient” with John Mousinho despite the club being rock bottom of the Championship.
Portsmouth find themselves at the bottom of the Championship Albeit having played two fewer games than most due to back-to-back postponements against Blackburn and Millwall.
Outside whispers have started to emerge as to whether Mousinho could eventually find himself under pressure, but Goodman has exclusively told Pompey News that is unlikely to be the case.
Goodman said: “He took them up in the first place and during the difficult patch early this season, they gave him a new contract. So that doesn’t strike me as a club that are going to get rid of a manager anytime soon.
“So I’d be confident that they’re going to be patient. But ultimately, everybody knows in football, it’s a results-based business. So for them, they’ve got to build on that Preston game which they won. Is it a sign that the tide is turning? You hope so.
“I understand, of course, that the be-all and end-all for them has to be staying in this division. They worked so hard to get here. It took them so, so very long to get here that they will do everything in their power to survive. I’ve seen enough to think that Portsmouth have a genuine chance of survival.”
Portsmouth have every chance of avoiding Championship relegation
While many say the table doesn’t lie, it seems a little bit inaccurate in Pompey’s case as they find themselves bottom having pleaded fewer games than other sides.
Aside from that, Mousinho’s men have certainly deserved more points than they’ve accumulated but the signs are there to suggest the club have enough in the tank to remain in the Championship.
The return of Colby Bishop will be a major boost at Fratton Park, for a side that have struggled in the final third having scored just seven goals in their 15 fixtures so far.

His goal on his return from heart surgery showcased the fact that his ability is still there despite a long time out of the team and Portsmouth will be hoping he can rekindle the form that he demonstrated so often during their promotion season.
As for Mousinho, he is doing a good job with all things considered and it would seem silly to even consider sacking him at this stage.
