View: 55% Terry Devlin in trouble after Portsmouth injury update on Swanson

Terry Devlin is at risk of losing his place in the Portsmouth lineup with Zak Swanson ready to return.

Pompey have seen several of their first-team players ruled out with serious injuries at one point or another this season, with Kusini Yengi the latest player set for an extended period on the treatment table.

However, while injuries continue to plague the team off the pitch, on the pitch they are beginning to turn things around, having lost just one of their last four matches.

And with momentum building at Fratton Park, it looks as though Swanson is ready to give his side an added boost on the pitch.

Ahead of their Championship clash with Bristol City at Fratton Park on Saturday [7 December], Mousinho has confirmed that the defender has returned to full training and is available for selection against the Robins [via The News, 5 December].

Swanson has been out of action since early October, having demonstrated before this just how effective he could be for Portsmouth in the Championship.

Therefore, supporters will be delighted to welcome the 24-year-old back. However, while Swanson’s return is a big boost for the club, it could spell bad news for Devlin on a personal note.

Zak Swanson to return for Portsmouth against Bristol City?

Devlin and Jordan Williams have filled in at right-back for Portsmouth in Swanson’s absence.

However, such is Pompey’s luck this season, Williams recently picked up an injury of his own, which means Devlin has started Portsmouth’s last two matches at right-back.

The 21-year-old played well in the 3-1 Championship win over Preston North End at Fratton Park [9 November], making six clearances, two interceptions and two tackles [Sofascore].

In addition, he also played one key pass, while winning two of his three ground duels and seven of his nine aerial duels.

However, he wasn’t as impressive in the 2-2 Championship draw away at Swansea [30 November]. On that occasion, the Northern Ireland international was dribbled past twice, while he also managed to complete just 55 per cent of his passes, with none of those key.

He also only managed one accurate long ball from four attempts and didn’t play a single cross into the box. Therefore, Mousinho might have been tempted to make a change at right-back against Bristol City.

And with Swanson available for selection again, that gives the Portsmouth boss the perfect opportunity to do so.
