Portsmouth didn’t want to go ‘crazy’ on Kamara transfer – David Norris
David Norris admits Portsmouth will not know the correct decision until the end of the season on their unwillingness to stump up serious money for last season’s loanees.
Abu Kamara and Alex Robertson each joined rival Championship clubs Hull City and Cardiff City respectively in the summer, having excelled at Fratton Park on loan last season.
Kamara’s old club Norwich City face Pompey at Fratton on Tuesday night [10 December], having priced John Mousinho’s side out of a permanent deal.
“The correct decision will emerge and will be in the end goal at the end of the season,” he told Pompey News.
“Pompey wouldn’t have wanted to go crazy when they’ve just come up, but maybe they’ll look to loosen the pursestrings a bit more then. Kamara and Robertson are very good players who would’ve taken a lot of money to bring in.
“They matched Cardiff’s offer for Robertson but just fell short on the personal terms. Do they eventually have to make a decision in January to bring three or four in on a different structure to give themselves the best chance of staying up?”
Portsmouth have big call to make in January
While the general thought both inside and outside of the club is that improvements are needed in January, Portsmouth are now shopping in a far more lucrative market.
The club have very little resale value coming through their academy, and Andy Cullen recently admitted resources are in a different world to fellow Championship clubs such as Leeds United.

Pompey are under pressure to spend in January to build the best possible opportunity for survival, with fans waiting through gritted teeth.
