Portsmouth postponement brought Colby Bishop fitness benefit – David Norris
David Norris thinks Portsmouth having two games postponed did bring some benefits such as Colby Bishop working towards 100 per cent fitness.
The former Blues midfielder, speaking exclusively to Pompey News, acknowledged it can be hard when form is beginning to improve and unforeseen circumstances strike, such as those which denied John Mousinho’s side completing a competitive match for three weeks in November with the Blackburn match cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch and the Millwall clash abandoned due to floodlight failure.
Norris did, however, note a benefit to the issue, believing players have more time to recover from the treatment table – something Pompey know all too well this term, while Bishop has also had more time to work towards match fitness after he required open-heart surgery earlier this year.
“Pompey are getting some momentum now, and I personally think that’s difficult to achieve when you have the break in play like they did with the postponements, so credit to them,” he said.
“It can blunt that run if you don’t play in a long time. But then the benefits are that players who are unfit have more time to recover – Colby Bishop getting back 100 percent was a prime example.”
Portsmouth look to continue run into festive period
Portsmouth are unbeaten in four league matches and head to Derby County on Friday night [13 December] looking to continue that run.
The Blues enter a game positioned outside the relegation zone in the Championship for the first time since August, with up to two games in hand on many of the sides around them.

Following the Rams clash comes a return to Fratton Park [21 December] against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City outfit.
In other Portsmouth news, Nicolas Schmid is proving himself as a number one Championship goalkeeper.
