David Norris appeals for ‘Hungry’ Abdoulaye Kamara to get more Portsmouth minutes

Portsmouth are not giving young players like Abdoulaye Kamara enough chances to impress in the side, according to David Norris.

The young midfielder, signed in the summer for an undisclosed fee, appeared in Pompey’s last two games but only played a minute against Norwich City last Tuesday [10 December], which was his first appearance in 10 games since the 6-1 drubbing by Stoke City [2 October].

Norris, exclusively speaking to Pompey News, wonders why some of the “promising” fringe players have not had more opportunities.

“When he’s come on, he’s looked alright. He wants the ball, looks hungry, even in games where they know they’re not going to win,” he said.

“He’s stepped up in parts, but John Mousinho must be seeing something that’s not giving him as much confidence as he’d like.

“Normally, you’d get a bit more of a chance when the team hasn’t played well, but it must be a long-term investment with him.”

Portsmouth still figuring out best team

John Mousinho has had to deal with mountainous injury issues all season and has therefore struggled to find the winning formula in his team.

A lack of serious investment has also not helped with January perceived to be vital in the club’s survival bid.

Portsmouth have offered only sporadic opportunities to Kamara so far along with the likes of Sammy Silvera, Owen Moxon, Ryley Towler and Elias Sorensen.

On the basis of the 4-0 thrashing at Derby County, perhaps it is time for Mousinho to give some of the youngsters more of a chance.
