View: Potts surely now undroppable at Portsmouth after 100% showing v Coventry

Freddie Potts showed against Coventry City exactly why he should now be undroppable at Portsmouth.

Four-goal Callum Lang rightly grabbed all the headlines in Saturday’s (21 December) 4-1 win, but Potts also produced a masterclass.

The West Ham United loanee recorded three key passes [WhoScored], which no other player on the field could better.

Indeed, one of those chances was converted by Lang for the third of his goals, with that Potts’ first assist of the campaign to go with his solitary goal.

Potts was also fouled three times – once again a joint-high of any player on the field – as Coventry’s players failed to contain him.

While the 21-year-old’s passing accuracy of 65 per cent may not seem that high, it is the third-highest figure of any Pompey player to play the full 90, bettered only by Zak Swanson (68) and Andre Dozzell (87).

Potts was certainly not afraid to get on the ball, with his 55 touches bettered only by Conor Ogilvie (59), while his four interceptions was double that of any team-mate as he also showed his defensive strengths.

Furthermore, he won 100 per cent of his two aerial duels and five out of eight of his ground duels [Sofascore].

Given he ranks in the bottom 51 percentile among midfielders for interceptions per 90 minutes (1.06), as per FBref, that is clearly an area of improvement.

Potts could also hold his head up high after the heavy loss to Derby County last week, and he is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.

And if he was not already, the youngster has surely made himself undroppable to John Mousinho.
