Portsmouth delete social media post after subtle Frank Lampard dig

Portsmouth rounded off their emphatic 4-1 victory over Frank Lampard’s Coventry on Saturday with a dig posted on their X account after the game.

Callum Lang took the spotlight at Fratton Park, scoring four as Pompey saw off Coventry on 21 December with Freddie Potts another who impressed.

Lampard spoke well about Pompey prior to the game but he won’t be too pleased with a social media post uploaded after full-time as Portsmouth fired a dig at the ex-Chelsea midfielder.

Portsmouth captioned a dual image of Lang smiling and then straight-faced with “No but seriously” as a dig towards the typical interview Lampard is involved in.

The post was swiftly deleted but it certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Portsmouth showing against Coventry is cause for optimism

It’s been a tough season at large for Pompey since their return to the Championship but the signs have been there to show that they have the capabilities to turn things around.

Those signs came to fruition against the Sky Blues as Portsmouth secured a deserved three points against the league strugglers and if John Mousinho’s side can maintain those levels, they will comfortably avoid a relegation battle.

However, that’s half of the challenge. Consistency has been the biggest downfall for Pompey and it’s something that needs to become a priority on the list of things to be addressed.

January will provide an opportunity for them to strengthen with Don Goodman claiming additions are needed at both ends of the pitch.

Lang’s performance was exemplary and if Pompey can add more attacking players capable of that level, they will have every chance of remaining in the Championship beyond this current season.
