View: Heed Andy Cullen’s message and back Portsmouth Women with easy ticket win

Portsmouth Women headed into the winter break with a bit of much-needed momentum thanks to a 2-2 draw at Sunderland.

It marked only a second Championship point of the season from 10 games and doubled the tally in the for column in what has been a tough transition to the professional games.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day, as they say, and this campaign – however it ends – will be a great learning curve for the women’s side and the bricks are place to build the foundations of what will hopefully be long-term success.

And for supporters there is a great way to get involved for the remainder of the campaign, back the girls and get involved to help the team kick on in the new year.

Portsmouth Women half-season tickets available

As explained by Portsmouth chief executive Andy Cullen in his programme notes (official website) for the men’s 4-1 hammering of “Frank Lampard’s” Coventry City on Saturday (21 December), half-season tickets are on sale for a very reasonable price.

He wrote: “Pompey Women also returned home with a well-deserved point from high-flying Sunderland, giving them a welcome dose of confidence going into the second half of their campaign.

“They now have a break before returning to FA Cup action with a fourth-round tie at Blackburn on January 12. Remember that half-season tickets are now on sale for their remaining home fixtures, priced at £36 for adults and just £6 for under-18s – a fantastic last-minute Christmas present!”

Now, please don’t think I’m making light of any outgoing costs while we’re still in a cost-of-living crisis, prices are on the rise still, and we’re at an extremely expensive time of year.

But, if you do have the means, then the prices are really fantastic value, especially for those with young families.

Credit to Pompey for the prices too, because targeting a younger fanbase and families is a great way to build the fanbase for the long term.

Ultimately, the plan is to make the women’s team as competitive as possible at the highest level possible, and getting fans more fans through the gate to help Jay Sadler’s side kick-off in 2025 would be marvellous.

So, if you are able, heed Cullen’s message and grab yourself a ticket…whether that be a Christmas gift or just a treat for yourself.
