Portsmouth ‘dreadful’ as BBC commentator furious at Bristol City scenes
Portsmouth performed way below the standard required to stay in the Championship with a “dreadful” display against Bristol City, according to Andy Moon.
BBC Radio Solent commentator Moon, who was covering the match alongside Blues legend Guy Whittingham, posted on X [29 December] and did not hold back on Pompey’s horrendous performance in the 3-0 defeat at Ashton Gate.
John Mousinho made four changes and rested key players – possibly as a statement to the Fratton Park board ahead of a vital January transfer window – and it backfired as Bristol City steamrolled his team from minute one.
Moon shared: “Oh dear. Dreadful [first] half from Pompey. Three sloppy goals and barely threatening Bristol City at all at the other end.
“Looking well below the required Championship levels this afternoon and hard to see a way back from here.”
Portsmouth back in drop zone after dismal day in Bristol
Portsmouth have fallen back into bad habits on the road. Having won just once away from home this season, they have been on the end of several hidings, which has again happened here.
Bristol City were demolished by Mousinho’s men at Fratton Park and were able to enjoy one of the most comfortable victories they will ever carve out in the Championship as the Blues visited within the same month.
The result drops Pompey back into the relegation zone of the Championship and after progress appears to be made in well-gathered home results in PO4, many of the away performances very much let the team down.

January is make-or-break for the campaign and consequent survival. The Eisners spent under £5million in the summer window – that suffices in League One and certainly does not one division above. The owners can point to the investment in infrastructure as a long-term plus point, but it becomes redundant without high-level football to be enjoyed.
